NCAA Lifts Ban On Discovery Airlines’ Operations

By In Uncategorized On 01/24/2018

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has lifted the ban on the operations of Discovery Airlines.
According to Samuel Adurogboye, Assistant General Manager, Corporate Communications, NCAA, the ban on Discovery Airlines’ Air Operator Certificate (AOC) was restored because the airline has complied with the requirements of the regulatory agency.
The airline’s AOC was initially suspended by the NCAA in January for violation of consumer rights.
Adurogboye said, however, that the airline still needs to re-apply for the re-certification of their equipment.
While adding that the NCAA would continue to review and monitor the airline’s operations, Adurogboye explained that the agency would continue to carry out corrective measures by imposing sanctions on airlines that commit infractions in line with the law.
The Chairman, Discovery Airlines, Mr. Babatunde Babalola, recently disclosed that the airline lost N1 billion due to the suspension of its operations.
Section 35 (2) and (3) (b) of the Civil Aviation Act 2006 and Part 1.1.3.3.3 (a) (i) of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations, 2009, empowers NCAA to suspend the Air Operator’s Certificate of any airline that default in its operation.
