More airlines pitch tent with MMA2

By In Travel News On 12/20/2018

The Murtala Muhammed Airport 2, otherwise known as MMA2, is becoming a nest for domestic airlines, as virtually all the major airlines with the exception of one now operate from the terminal, regarded as Nigeria’s best run terminal.

Nigeria’s biggest airline by fleet size and traffic, Air Peace had last week announced plans to operate from the terminal starting from January 2, 2019.
The airline in a statement, said it is moving a part of its flight operations to the terminal to position itself for better service to customers.

The MMA2 is becoming like the proverbial rejected stone that has become the cornerstone, considering airlines apathy to the terminal. Aero, Medview, FirstNation, Max Air, Dana, Azman and Arik are operating from the area. Arik after more than 10 years did what was unthinkable by relocating part of its operations to the terminal.

Former Chairman of Arik Air, Mr. Arumemi Johnson Ikhide and Chairman of Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, Dr. Wale Babalakin were embroiled in a serious personality clash when Arik pulled out of a last minute deal to have its entire operations in the terminal.

The airline had paid for space and offices until the former Arik boss caused his airline to operate from the congested General Aviation Terminal (GAT) with insufficient infrastructure. All that changed when Arik announced to the surprise of many this year that it would start flight services from MMA2.

An airline operator who spoke to New Telegraph on condition of anonymity, said MMA2 is first choice because of its state-of-the-art facilities, soft services, excellent airline and passenger services, seamless passenger facilitation that gives their customers an unforgettable experience and fantastic relationship management.
Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL) has remained committed to providing first class service and maintaining the highest standard of professionalism through continuous investment in power generation, passenger facilitation and modern technology.

These technology innovations include the Common Users Passenger Processing System (CUPPS), the self-service check-in kiosks, automated access gates and the Baggage Reconciliation System (BRS).
MMA2 is the first and only terminal to deploy such in Nigeria, West and Central Africa. Within three years of the concessioning and in the face of serious hostility and inconsistency on the part of the government, Bi-Courtney Limited completed the new domestic airport, which is now famously known as MMA2.

This airport terminal has been variously described as the best in Nigeria today and certainly the first airport terminal to be built in Africa with private funds without any support of the government.

Until recently, it is acclaimed to be the most modern, functional, and well-run domestic airport terminal in sub-Saharan Africa.
