Minor fire incident at MMA2

Minor fire incident at MMA2

By In Travel News On 01/24/2018

A minor fire incident, resulting from an electrical spark, occurred outside the Murtala Muhammed Airport Two (MMA2), Lagos, today, November 10, at about 11.30am.

The fire was put out by our staff at the scene within the minute of its occurrence, without harm to any person or equipment. Fire fighters from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigerian (FAAN) arrived the scene within the allowable response time, but met the situation under control.

The affected area has been cordoned off and our engineers are working to replace the affected electrical cable.

We had to temporarily shut down the cooling system in some parts of the terminal to allow for a comprehensive diagnosis of the fault.

Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operator of the terminal, regrets the temporary discomfort caused by this development.

BASL adopts global best practice in all its operations, including fire and safety procedures. All staff undergo annual International Civil Aviation Authority’s (ICAO) certified fire and safety training to update their knowledge.

This year’s training was concluded barely a week before today’s incident, making it possible for the personnel on ground to tackle the fire effectively.
