Rodger Whittle

GROUP EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Rodger Whittle joined the Canadian airline industry in 1982, with Wardair Canada, a leading airline in Canada as an In-Flight Service Manager on B747 and DC10 equipment and later proceeded to Air Ontario – part of the Air Canada team as head of training for the In-Flight Group.

In 1989, subsequent to a crash and significant loss of life, he was seconded to Transport Canada where he along with industry leaders worked on a large project which looked at global airline best practice.  This project, over the course of five years, led to the re-write of the Canadian Aviation Regulatory System, a system which today is regarded as a world leader. In the course of this project, Rodger was privately commissioned by Transport Canada to develop the standard for carriage of medical patients on air ambulance services in Canada, the initial standard used by Transport Canada Aviation Security for the Air Operator Security Program, and the Flight Attendant Manual Standard for use by Air Operators in Canada.

In 1994, Rodger was invited to join a management team which went to South Africa and started South African Express Airways.  The establishment of this carrier set a new standard in South Africa and very quickly, the old regulatory system in the country was disbanded and the new Civil Aviation Regulations, based on the Canadian model, were adopted in full.

Rodger stayed in South Africa and assisted the South African carriers achieve regulatory compliance. In this process, Rodger joined Nationwide Airlines where he spent eleven years and became the Chief Operating Officer of the company.

In 2009, Rodger joined Arik Air International Limited as the Senior Vice President, Standards & Service Delivery where he adopted full responsibility for all customer facing roles as well as product development within the airline.

In 2014, Rodger was recognized by US Homeland Security / Transportation Safety Agency for the implementation of comprehensive and pro-active program within Arik Air to manage the threats and subsequent mitigation of Ebola in West Africa.
